Within my work I depict realistic, figurative forms and geometric shapes. I use multiple hexagonal shapes in various ways to create irregular patterns, which I refer to as “panels”, which contain and constrain the figures within. The panels can also be viewed as a form of protection. The panels may represent my way of world organization. The panels may also represent a form of a window, or memory of the past or future, where the viewer is looking in.
When I open my mind to how things function, and why they exist, I imagine the hexagonal panels as containers, storing information as a posted note or a reminder. After researching and learning about a subject or object, I then ponder the ways in which I could retain the information but as well access them when needed. Thus, I create these bodies of work as art but also as ways to remember certain events.
